Formed in 1997, Altoona Central Catholic School (ACCS) has been in existence for the past thirteen years.   We are a consolidation of nine parish schools under the guidance of the Altoona/Johnstown Diocese and the pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  Altoona Central Catholic serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight.  Currently our school consists of two sites: ACCS Elementary located at 424 Wopsononock Avenue and ACCS Middle School at 1400 4th Avenue Altoona, PA.

Altoona Central Catholic School exists to develop the spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, creative, and physical needs of students, thus preparing them to meet the challenges of modern life.  The beliefs and traditions of the Catholic faith provide the foundation for a child-sensitive school environment where teachers and students interact in an atmosphere based on respect.

Our school has been a positive presence in Altoona and the surrounding areas.  It is the intention of the administration, parents, faculty and staff to maintain this presence as we continue the spiritual and academic formation of those entrusted to us.

Altoona Central Catholic School provides Catholic education to residents of the Altoona area at an elementary and a middle school site.  The school builds on the exceptional traditions of nine elementary schools that were an integral part of Altoona's early Roman Catholic history.

The railroad town of great ethnic diversity gave rise to many ethnic churches, each with their own schools.  For decades, these schools were staffed primarily by several religious orders of sisters.  But as demographics changed and the number of religious diminished, the nature of these parish schools had to change.

Altoona Central Catholic was a response to those changing circumstances.  This new model for Catholic Schools in the Altoona area has proven to be a great success, among other things, establishing the first middle school in the diocese.
